ECC Sows EC Awareness In The Sunrise Capital Of The Philippines

Mati City – The Employees’ Compensation Commission conducted a province-wide advocacy seminar last March 30, 2017 in Mati City, Davao Oriental known as the Sunrise Capital of the Philippines.

150 participants, composed mostly of employers, human resource officers and company representatives of various establishments and government agencies including members of AFP, PNP, BFP and BJMP from different precincts/stations and nearby provinces in Mati City attended the activity.

ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said that the advocacy seminar in Mati City is pursuant to ECC’s thrust in ensuring that all employees and their employers are cognizant of the programs streamlined by this agency of the government. “The activity was an efficient way of addressing clamors about failure of claimants to avail the benefits under EC programs due to lack of its information.” Banawis added.

Col Reuben S. Basiao of the 701st Infantry Battalion stressed during the seminar that many of his men have already died in line of military operations but were unable to benefit the programs of ECC due to their lack of information. “We are grateful that this information dissemination is held because we are now well-informed of our privileges under the EC programs.” he added.

Aside from a thorough discussion on the package of EC benefits and services to public and private sector employees in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death, time was also allotted to Senior Labor and Employment Officer Joseph Vingna to introduce to the participants the new DOLE Department Order 174 on contracting and subcontracting.

The activity was the fifth advocacy seminar conducted by the Employees’ Compensation Commission in Davao Region since 2008.
