In line with assisting the affected employees during the NCCC Mall Fire last December 2017, the Department of Labor and Employment XI is conducting series of orientations for the 30-day Emergency Employment Program (EEP).

As of January 13, 2018 there are already more than 1,000 employees oriented. Employees covered for the series of conducted and ongoing orientations are NCCC Mall Department Store and Supermarket employees, BMIRK Multi-Purpose Cooperative agency employees, tenants, merchandisers and promodisers.

The beneficiaries will sign the EEP contract after complying the requirements and will be endorsed to their preferred barangay here in Davao Region. More than 600 of the beneficiaries oriented have already signed the contract.

Earlier this month, DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III signed Labor Advisory No. 1, Series of 2018 which directs DOLE XI to immediately provide emergency employment assistance to the NCCC Mall fire incident affected employees and also to the families of the 38 who perished during the incident.

The Labor Advisory also states that in case the affected workers “do not want or cannot engage in TUPAD community projects, their qualified immediate family members or relatives” can avail of the program on their behalf provided that they will submit the required documents.

Moreover, DOLE XI targets a total of 2,024 affected employees to avail of the EEP.
