ECC XI ASSISTS FAMILIES OF ASTORGA ROAD MISHAP VICTIMS

Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur -  The Employees’ Compensation Commission XI, along with the LGU Social Welfare representatives,   recently conducted a Quick-Response Program (QRP) to the families of the victims of the road accident at Franklin Baker, Inc.

Pursuant to the continual endeavor of ECC to lighten up the grief of the bereaved families over the loss of their loved ones, the Commission extended to the families tokens in the form of grocery items as expression of its sympathy. Further, the families were apprised of their entitlements as beneficiaries under EC programs. During the event, ECC XI Program Manager Franschelline Orvette D. Loayon emphasized that the beneficiaries of those deceased are entitled to Php 30,000 as funeral benefit, another EC Cash Assistance amounting to Php 15,000 and EC Survivorship pension.

Last June 3, 2018 at around 12 O’clock in the afternoon, a vehicular accident involving Franklin Baker’s company vehicle carrying 17 employees transpired in Astorga, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur where 14 lives perished. The accident was deemed to be work-connected since it occurred while en route to the workplace.

Stella Zipagan-Banawis, ECC Executive Director, iterated the Commission’s long standing exhortation to the public especially to the establishments and its workers to give paramount importance on safety so that untoward incident like this may be avoided. “The Commission is keen not only on providing necessary benefits for the victims of work-connected contingencies but also on promoting safety in the company.” she added.

“It is very comforting to be one of the beneficiaries of the helping hands of the Employees’ Compensation Commission.” Mr. Vengie Lumanta, one of the survivors, remarked during the event. He added that his hopes to continue living a normal life despite the disabling effect of the accident was renewed by the ECC’s assurance of unceasing support such as granting him of livelihood assistance. 

Likewise, the ECC representatives instructed the management of the ANR and Dames manpower agencies, under whose office the employment of the deceased belongs, on how to proceed with the Employees’ Compensation claims for the beneficiaries.
