Municipality of Santa Cruz - The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur in partnership with the Guidance Office of Sta. Cruz National High School successfully held a Career Summit and Job Fair exclusive for the Senior High School Students of the said school last February 27, 2020, at Santa Cruz National High School Gymnasium. The affair aimed to assist the youth in their journey in choosing the right career path of the 478 attendees. 

 

 

Mr. Nestor R. Amoroso, School Principal, gave an opening remark emphasizing his gratitude to the collective efforts of the team in realizing the event and for the presence of all the participants and guests. Mr. Dan Louie Mejos, the Regional Focal of Department of Labor and Employment XI in Career Guidance Advocacy Program (CGAP) talked about Labor Market Information wherein students gained inputs on the required skills to fit in the currently in-demand jobs. A comprehensive discussion on Pre-Employment Seminar for Local Applicants (PESLA) and Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) was delivered by Ms. Garnet S. Lucero, DOLE XI Davao del Sur Field Office Employment Focal. She focused on giving the undergraduates tips on how to get hired and briefly explained about the existing labor laws. To show his support, Mr. Rolly Impas, Provincial PESO Manager, presented their office’s programs and services which can facilitate the needs of job seekers. Moreover, Ms. Cheryl Serenatas, PESO Manager of Sta. Cruz made a recap on what their organization could offer such as scholarships and training at the Municipal level. 

 

 

The Job Fair took place after the series of speeches from the generous resource persons wherein twelve (12) establishments from the different parts of Davao del Sur including Ever Bilena Cosmetics Inc., Gaisano Mall – Digos, GSL Premium Food Export, Alternative Network Resource, Vicente Lao Construction, Franklin Baker Corporation of the Philippines and Dames International Corporation. Among the top vacancies were Production Staff, Sales Associate, Drivers, Cashiers, and Stockmen. At the end of the job fair, 61 applicants out of the 78 registered students qualified in the employers’ screening while 19 of them were hired on the spot. (By Elvi Cathe Lzil M. Orbina, DOLE XI)
