A total of 106 applicants were hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) during the recently concluded 2-day Special Job Fair for NCCC Mall Fire Victims by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI in partnership with the Davao City Public Employment Service Office on February 26 and 26, 2018 at Almendras Gym.
Out of the total number of HOTS, 47 are former NCCC Workers and 4 are NCCC worker’s dependents while the rest are walk-in applicants. 469 (Local 284, Overseas 185) applicants are subject for further interview by their selected employers.
There were a total of 711 (Local 474, Overseas 237) applicants registered during the job fair wherein 583 (Local 395, Overseas 188) of them were qualified applicants.
Orlando Genelaso, a former service crew at NCCC Mall, was one of the HOTS as mall stockman during the job fair.
“Nangita kog trabaho nga fulltime, minimum rate. Mao ni karon nag apil ko sa job fair nga gipahigayon sa DOLE. Lipay kaayo ko nga na hired on the spot, (I was looking for a full-time job with a minimum rate. That’s why I lined up here at the job fair. I am very happy I was hired on the spot.)” Genelaso said.
DOLE XI Assistant Regional Director Evelyn R. Ramos, during her opening remarks at the Special Job Fair emphasized that this is a part of the Department’s intervention in providing assistance to the NCCC Mall fire victims through facilitating their full-time employment.
ARD Ramos also encouraged employers to be considerate enough especially to the NCCC victims and hire them on the spot if possible.
Also present during the opening program of the activity were Davao City Councilor and Assistant Chairperson of Labor and Employment in the city Antoinette G. Principe-Castrodes and Atty. Elisa E. Lapina from the City Legal Office who represented Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte.
