Davao City — A cooperative here finds added  throwaway cavendish banana by converting it to organic fertilizer.

The Progressive Highland and Multi-Purpose Cooperative ventured  “Vermicomposting and Vermicompost Tea Brewing” using reject cavendish banana.

The Department of Labor and Employment Davao region has provided funding assistance for the project that will benefit a total of 740 members.

The project was in convergence with Department of Science and Technology. DOLE provides for the equipment wile DOST provides the training.

Recently, the on training vermicomposting and Vermicompost Tea brewing training was held last April 21, 2015 facilitated by Dr. Teresita Bayaron, a professor at Davao del Norte State College and Mr. Reynaldo Utong, a farmer and a Technological Adoptor.

The Progressive Highland and Multi-purpose Cooperative had been in operation of several income generating activities such as micro-lending, consumer store, job contracting services, propping and hauling services, agri-marketing of banana, vegetables and seasonal fruits. (report from Grashiela Gay F.
