A total of 41 workers from Davao Region qualified for employment with Qatar Aviation Services (QAS), a subsidiary of Qatar Airways which provides ground handling services and support at the Doha International Airport in Qatar.  The 41 workers are among the 165 workers who signified interest to work as cabin cleaners and cargo loaders.

The recruitment process was facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment, Region XI (DOLE XI) last January 25, 2013.  Representatives of JS Contractor, Inc., the local contractor, and QAS, conducted a Special Recruitment Activity at the DOLE XI office with the support of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) XI and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Davao City and Compostela Valley.

DOLE XI Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao said that the Special Recruitment Activity by employer QAS through JS Contractor, Inc. is a welcome opportunity for the workers in Region XI, especially those affected by typhoon “Pablo.”  A total of 84 applicants passed the pre-screening process and were interviewed by the QAS team led by Ahmed Tarktar.  JS Contractor, Inc. and QAS reported that 41 applicants were finally identified as qualified for employment (31 as cabin cleaners and 10 as cargo loaders).

“The QAS was originally scheduled to conduct recruitment activity only in Manila and Cebu City.  We are pleased that it agreed to include Davao Region in the itinerary.  DOLE XI, together with the POEA and the PESOs, is committed to facilitate the employment of our workers in the region though the conduct of similar activities, like in this case where there is no placement fee involved,” Suyao added.
