Bowl for Peace, one of the largest bowling tournaments in a long time in Davao, rolled into action recently at the NCCC Bowling Center, with 34 participating teams from government, employers, labor and other sectors.
Jointly sponsored by the Department of Labor and Employment, the Regional Tripartite and Industrial Peace Council and the People Management Association of the Philippines, the tourney aims to foster camaraderie among the social partners and thus promote social dialogue and industrial peace. Councilor Peter Laviña and DOLE Regional Director Jalilo Dela Torre opened the tournament, while ICT Davao President Bert Barriga read the rules.
Davao Light and Power Corporation fielded two teams and quickly asserted itself as a bowling force by capturing the first and third spots, with a 2-game series of 1,646 (5 players) and 1,623, respectively. The Department of Labor and Employment Lights, one of three DOLE teams, was at second with 1,629. Holcim Excel was close at the heels of the top three at 1,617. FEDCO rounded off the top five with 1,613.
Jessie Talle of Davao Light captured the highest female individual single for the day with 148 while Manolito Suerte of Holcim Excel was top for the males with 216.
Because of the large number of teams, the tournament had to be divided into two groups, one playing on Thursdays and the other on Saturdays. The tourney will culminate on May 1 after 10 games.
