Davao City – A total of 99 child laborers from 53 families in Brgy. Leon Garcia, Agdao, Davao City received food packs, hygiene kits, and school supplies on April 21, 2021 through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI’s Project Alalay sa Ginikanan Alang sa Kalambuan sa Kabatan-onan (AGAKKA).

The distribution of goods was facilitated by DOLE XI-Davao City Field Office (DCFO) in partnership with Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Present during the distribution were Supervising LEO Ms. Maria Cecilia A. Gravino of DOLE XI-DCFO, Mr. Fermin Edillon of DLPC Reputation Department, and Brgy. Captain Lita Empis of Brgy. Leon Garcia.

Mr. Edillon shared that the hygiene kits and school supplies were donated by the employees of DLPC.

“These food packs, hygiene kits, and school supplies may be a simple help to the child laborers but we hope that through these small things, we will be able to implant hope into the future of our child laborers, that they will be encouraged to study and enjoy their childhood days,” said Ms. Gravino.

DOLE XI Regional Director Ofelia B. Domingo expressed her gratitude to the project partners for their ceaseless support to the department’s campaign to prevent and eliminate child labor in the country.

Last January 20, 2021, 150 child laborers in the region also received the same goods through this project.

DOLE XI’s Project AGAKKA aims to assist parents or guardians of child laborers to become financially stable by providing them livelihood or emergency employment.
