DAVAO DEL NORTE – The Department of Labor and Employment XI, through its Davao del Norte Field Office, officially turned over a newly constructed classroom to Maguintalunan Elementary School on August 16, 2021 in Sitio Maguintalunan, Brgy. Visayas, Sto Tomas, Davao del Norte.

The classroom building project was funded from the proceeds of the 3rd Sagip Batang Manggagawa Fun Run amounting to P449,350.00, which was held in Tagum City last November 25, 2018. About 600 individuals joined the said event and it was largely supported by some companies in the banana industry and stakeholders from the retail, services, and construction industries. Major sponsors for the funding were Tagum Agricultural Development Company, Inc. (TADECO), Marsman Drysdale, and Antonio O. Floirendo Foundation. Men of the 534 Engineer Construction Battalion, under the leadership of Col. Rolly B. Figueroa, were the partners in building the classroom.

The officers of the Banana Industry Tripartite Council (BITC)  chose the Maguintalunan Elementary School considering the number of indigenous children who will benefit from the project.

DOLE XI OIC-Regional Director expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, partners, and volunteers behind the success of this project. “We were able to achieve this because of our drive and common goal to create a brighter future for our children,” RD Pensoy added.

The turnover ceremony was led by DOLE XI OIC-Asst. Regional Director Atty. Jason P. Balais, DOLE XI-DNFO Chief Angelina A. Talingting, Commanding Officer of the 89IB, 10ID PA LTC Donald P. Gaffud, and School Head Mr. Glenn Timbal. Also present were representatives of major sponsors, BITC officers, and DOLE XI personnel.
