The Davao City Field Office (DCFO) of the Department of Labor and Employment, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology XI took its part in giving utmost importance to food safety as they conducted the Good Manufacturing Practices Awareness Seminar last September 14, 2015.

Around 30 representatives from different businesses involved particularly in the manufacturing, brewing and food processing industries participated in the seminar.

DCFO Chief Reynaldo Dennis Badilles it is also the department’s contribution to the City Government’s continuous campaign on food safety.

“The seminar aims to raise awareness and knowledge on the fundamentals of sanitation and proper handling in the food production as it is necessary since health of the consumers must always be ensured in the food processing business,” Badilles said.

The participants were geared up with the basic knowledge on the proper hand washing procedure, food safety hazards, personal hygiene, proper handling and audit of raw materials, food contact and pest control in the workplace.

Resource speaker Eva Jean E. Villaceran from the City Health Office reminded the participants that the food safety depends on the way the food products are prepared and the sanitation of the workplace where they work.

“Your health is in your hands,” Villaceran said.

The activity is a joint effort of the DOLE-DCFO, Department of Science and Technology and the Davao Food Safety Team. (DOLE-DCFO)
