Municipality of Boston is situated in the northernmost part of Davao Oriental along the coastal line facing Cateel Bay. It is considered as a 3rd class municipality with a land area of 35,703 has. and a total population of 11,176. Its major economic activities are copra-making, abaca-fiber making, furniture-making, coffee production gold mining and timber production and they are the farthest municipality in Davao Oriental.
On August 3-5, 2011, the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region XI hold a Service Caravan to the Municipality of Boston and Cateel, Davao Oriental. It was participated in by 46 national agencies to bring their services and goods to the farthest place in Davao Oriental.The team was headed by the ARENA XI President RD Achilles Bravo of the Department of Budget and Management. A welcome program was organized in Mati Provincial Capitol where the ARENA XI delegation paid a courtesy call to the Honorable Gov. Corazon Malanyaon.
The DOLE Regional Team was led by Asst. Regional Director Venerando Cebrano with the DOLE Davao Oriental Provincial Head, Mr. Allan Baban. On August 3, 2011, medical supplies and equipment for the livelihood program in the amount of P 59,909.50 was released to the Entreprenurse Cooperative in Mati City. Officers of the Cooperative in the person of Estelita Pansoy, RN and Mr. Jose Alaba, RN were present to receive the grant from DOLE. They have scheduled their simple inauguration and opening for their medical and first aid services on August 8, 2011. Their location is within Matiao, Mati, Davao Oriental where they rented a place to put their botika ng bayan which was given by DOH on June 10, 2011 and the equipment and supplies for medical and first aid services they got from DOLE.
In Boston, Davao Oriental 5,000 seedlings of Giant Cardaba Banana were released to Barangay Carmen benefitting 20 farmers. A total of 4 Fisher folks Associations in 3 different barangays (Sibajay, Cabasagan and Poblacion) received fishing equipments amounting to P30,000.00 each barangay for their project facilitated by their Administrator and PESO Manager, Danny Brillantes while in Cateel, Davao Oriental, 2 barangays Aragon and San Rafael received 10pcs of Eel Catching Nets for their fishing project. Also, 5 barangays in Cateel namely Brgy. Poblacion, San Antonio, Sta. Filomena, Mainit and Baybay received fishing equipments for their self-employment project for 128 beneficiaries. Career Coaching to 150 high school students in Boston National High School and 420 high school students in Cateel National Agricultural High School, San Antonio National High School and Cateel Vocational High School were conducted by DOLE Davao Oriental Staff, Mr, Joseph Vingno on August 4 and 5, 2011 respectively. The Service Caravan as initiated by the ARENA XI yielded successful output for the people in Davao Oriental was able to access services and facilities that are available to support their daily life and their livelihood projects which will help them to develop their rural communities. The initiative was seen as a good practice for replication with the other Municipalities in Region XI.
