Davao City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently participated during the Public Hearing on Security of Tenure of Workers in the Private Sector conducted by the House of Representatives Committee on Employment.

The public hearing was held last February 25, 2017 at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) Campus and joined by DOLE executives namely Undersecretary Joel B. Maglungsod, Assistant Secretary Joji V. Aragon, Bureau of Working Conditions Director Ma. Teresita S. Cucueco, Bureau of Labor Relations Director Benjo Santos M. Benavidez and DOLE XI OIC-Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Jason P. Balais.

Public hearing discussions were headed by House Committee on Employment Chairperson Cagayan Representative Randolph S. Ting, together with vice-chairs Benguet Rep. Ronald M. Cosalan and TUCP Partylist Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza; and committee members Anakpawis Rep. Ariel B. Casilao and Baguio City Rep. Mark Go.

Prior to the open forum discussions, a Davao Region labor situationer was presented by DOLE XI OIC-ARD Balais.

Those who participated during the open forum were members of the labor and management sectors of different establishments in nearby regions. The forum covered the different issues and concerns of both the workers and employers on security of tenure and contractualization.

Moreover, knowing about the lack of Labor Laws Compliance Officers (LLCO) of the Department, the Committee also pledged to endorse additional 200 LLCOs nationwide to the Department of Budget Management.
