DOLE picks 2013’s MSME’s with the best productivity improvement practices
“Today is your defining moment,” Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said as she addressed the finalists competing for this year’s national award for the Best Productivity Improvement Practices during the 2013 Productivity Olympics’ National Judging Panel held on 09 October 2013 at the Bayview Park Hotel.
“The DOLE’s Search for Best Productivity Improvement Practices, under the banner of the 2013 Productivity Olympics organized by the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), is different from other quality and productivity award-giving bodies because it focuses on the main driver of productivity in the workplace, none other than the human resource,” Baldoz said.
“Companies which have successfully embarked on a productivity journey are better off in terms of overcoming the challenges posed by globalization and stiff market competition,” she added while describing the search as an exciting race, making heads turn as the Philippine economy bounces and productivity is starting to become a byword among business enterprises.
Other members of the tripartite panel of jurors who selected this year’s best are DOLE Undersecretaries Ciriaco A. Lagunzad III and Rebecca C. Chato; Ernesto F. Herrera of the Trade Union of the Philippines (TUCP); Gerard R. Seno of the TUCP-Alliance of Labor Unions; Anton LL. Sayo of the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines; Nora L. Lacuna of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Angelito M. Sarmiento of the Philippine Quality Alliance; Dr. Manuel E. Villegas of the Manila Doctors Hospital; and Dr. Agnes T. Banzon.
The panel assessed the finalists based on business excellence and resource management.
The 23 national finalists, or those who met the minimum qualification of being compliant to labor and standards and who will receiving a certificate of labor standards compliance, are as follows: Honey Bee Producers Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Region IV-A; San Rafael ARB Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Region VI; Elim’s Agricultural Supply Dressing Plant of Region X; Daet Food Producers Association of Region V; Lighthouse Cooperative-Ybanag Food Products of Region III; Juboken Enterprise Inc. of Region V; Goldwin Manufacturing Laboratories Corporation and Sunlight Foods Corporation of the National Capital Region (NCR); Marsha’s Delicacies of Region I; Big Norman’s Garden Supplies and Services of Region V; KAPPIA of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR); Leganes Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Region VI; San Andres Fishing Industry Cooperative of Region IV-A; Greenlight Power Inc of the NCR; Isabel Doctors’ Hospital of Region II; Davao Adventist Hospital of Region XI; Tanvera Corporation of Region V; and Andres Soriano Hospital of Region XIII.
The national winners, who will be announced during the awarding ceremonies to be held on 24 October 2013, will receive a trophy and cash prize of P100,000.
“As national winners are declared every other year, I encourage you and the growing tribe of productivity winners, practitioners, and advocates to spread the good news that adopting productivity as a business strategy is a meaningful tool to be competitive,” Baldoz said.
The Productivity Olympics is a recognition strategy being held every other year giving cognizance to MSMEs which are able to adopt best productivity improvement practices and programs and used it as a catalyst to improve their business performance and optimize use of resources.
