Davao City – On March 29, 2021, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI, Department of Agriculture (DA) XI, Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) XI together with the seven (7) licensed agricultural and biosystem engineers (ABE) GIP Interns inked a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Government Internship Program (GIP) of DOLE seeks to provide opportunities for and engage young workers in exposing their skills and talents in the field of public service, with the goal of attracting the best and brightest individuals interested in pursuing a career in government service.

DOLE XI Regional Director Ofelia B. Domingo praised the interns for choosing a course and a career that is not popular among the younger generation which is vital to the advancement of Philippine agriculture. Aside from providing relevant work experience, GIP for the ABE Youth is purposive in nature. DOLE XI commits to constantly provide assistance and support to those in the agricultural industry.

DA XI Regional Executive Director Ricardo M. Oñate, Jr. thanked DOLE XI for the partnership and expressed hope that more ABE youth will be accommodated in the future. Furthermore, DA XI Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED) Chief Engr. Danilo Alesna stated that these seven (7) ABE GIP interns will be deployed to different Provincial Agriculture Offices not only to augment RAED’s workforce in the field, but also to help young ABE have a good and relevant training and eventually land a plantilla position in the government.

Meanwhile, PhilFIDA XI OIC Director Milagros B. Laburada showed her support to the interns’ professional development.

Another seven (7) ABE GIP interns will be accommodated for the second batch of the program.
