Davao City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI held its first virtual celebration of Labor Day, May 1.

The main part of the whole-day event was the conduct of 2021 Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan Virtual Job and Business Fair. A total of 27 employers interviewed 377 shortlisted candidates, 38 were hired on the spot (HOTS), while 142 were near hire applicants. Most number of HOTS were service crew, warehouse/delivery checker, accounting staff, customer service representative, accounting specialist, sales representative, and mission operator.

Another highlight of the event was the awarding of “COVID-19 Best Resilient Employee” per industry/sector. The 19 awardees from across Davao Region each received a Certificate of Entitlement for Livelihood Starter Kit with a maximum worth of P30,000.00

Meanwhile, DOLE XI Provincial Field Offices awarded a total of P33,046,497.50 Livelihood and Emergency Employment Grant to 13 Accredited Co-Partners with 6,359 beneficiaries.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration facilitated the awarding of Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH), Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP), and Sa Pinas Ikaw ang Ma’am/Sir (SPIMS).

Additionally, the DOLE-Regional Coordinating Committee conducted services orientation such as Scholarship Programs and Competency Certification for Assessment and  Safety Officer Training among others.

The Department of Information and Communication Technology XI joined the event by conducting a lecture on use of social platforms and digital technology.

Minor and major prizes were also given to virtual audience through a raffle draw.

In his opening remarks, Assistant Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy, thanked the partners for their unceasing support. “The collective effort from our partner agencies and our employers in bringing these employment opportunities and services in the grassroots level, especially to the displaced workers in the region, is deeply appreciated.”

Regional Director Ofelia B. Domingo acknowledged the resilience of employees, employers, and jobseekers amidst the pandemic and assured the public that the department is doing its best to provide more opportunities and assistance in these trying times.

This year’s celebration of DOLE’s nationwide annual event was held virtually as mass gatherings remain prohibited to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. However, the virtual job fair and the main program were held at Malayan Colleges Mindanao. The entire program was streamed live on DOLE XI’s Facebook page. The event started with a thanksgiving mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Davao City.

DOLE XI ensured the manning and smooth conduct of the activities at the vicinity of MCM following the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines on the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Davao City.
