Davao City – Labor inspectors and selected pool of speakers of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI joined the training of trainers for the prescribed basic OSH training course for Safety Officer Level 1 on July 10, 2019 at The Pinnacle Hotel.

In his opening message, DOLE XI Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante, emphasized the Department’s effort to fully capacitate participants in carrying out deliverables. “I am encouraging you to be more attentive so that you will be equipped with the right perspective and knowledge”, he added.

Resource Speaker, Dr. Felix Labanda, Medical Officer III of the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) discussed the general concepts on Occupational Safety and Health, the various DOLE Issuances on Occupational Health and its corresponding reportorial requirements.

Guest Resource Speaker, Emmanuel Galleon of People360 Consulting Corporation presented the concepts of Hazards Identification, Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC) and its application.  Other topics discussed are the International and Local OSH figures, Philippine population and worker statistics and the emerging issues and concerns on Occupational Safety and Health.

During the session, Galleon also discussed the module on “Building Confidence as OSH Trainer”.  In his lecture, he stressed the characteristics of an effective OSH trainer. He also shared tips from choosing training modalities to slide/presentation delivery.

RD Agravante closed the session with an instruction to schedule a separate session where participants can integrate and practice their learnings as Resource Persons.  The participants will be grouped per Field Office and will be rated by a panel of judges. (By Suzette Jane A.
