The Employees’ Compensation Commission conducted an In-house seminar on the Employees’ Compensation Programs exclusively for the Communication Officers from various Infantry Battalions under the jurisdiction of the 10th Infantry Division on February 23, 2018 at 10th ID, Mawab, Compostela Valley Province.
The event was attended by more than 50 Brigade and Battalion communication officers who expressed dedications to conduct information dissemination on EC programs in their respective battalions.
“The activity sought not only to apprise the participants of the several benefits available under the Employees’ Compensation Programs but also to exhort them to cascade the information in their respective brigades and battalions. “ Col Anthony B. Purugganan, Assistant Division Commander for Retirees and Reservists Affairs remarked.
During the question and answer portion of the event, the participants were explained how they remained members of EC Programs despite the severance of their membership with the GSIS. They were told that ECC is a distinct and separate government agency whose funds are held by the GSIS, for government sector, and by SSS, for private sector. So to speak, they would file the EC claim at GSIS being the one to disburse the EC funds.
Stella Zipagan-Banawis, ECC Executive Director, pointed that “an event like this is of great importance to address the lack of awareness of our men in uniform regarding the package of benefits under EC Programs for work-connected contingencies that may occur to them.” She added that the Commission will be relentless in its thrust not only in informing everyone about the program but also in promptly facilitating the EC claims for those who will fall victims of work-connected injuries, sickness, or death.
“I feel so privileged to have attended this kind of seminar because I got to know my entitlements under EC Programs which I did not know for a long time.” Cpt Roberto Escalona said after the discussion.
The office of the Commander of the 10th Infantry Division conceded to make a prompt reporting to the office of ECC in Region XI on every work-connected case that may happen to its personnel.
