Davao City – “The Employees’ Compensation Commission, indeed, gave hope to people like us who are no longer fit to work due to disabilities.”, mused Mr. Ciano Gomintong during the release of his availed sets of computers.
The ECC Davao Region bequeathed livelihood starter kits of different sort to six beneficiaries with working disabilities due to accidents they met at work. The grant is in accordance with the long standing mandate of the Commission to bring disabled workers back to the economic mainstream.
The recipients who received different livelihood kits worth 20,000 pesos in September 2019 were Ciano Gomintong, Aiza Puna, Marilou Bautista, Agripino Rosales Jr., Arnolfo Cuesta, Jr. and Jonathan Martinez. All were entitled under the Kagabay Programs of ECC.
Aside from the livelihood kits, the recipients formerly availed the EC disability benefits, free skill and entrepreneurial trainings and rehabilitation services shouldered by ECC.
ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis said that the Commission was hopeful that from this livelihood grant, sustainable prosperity will sprout for the families of the EC beneficiaries. “We hope that they realize that despite their movement being restricted by disabilities they remain to have limitless opportunities to keep going economically.” she added.
For this year, the ECC Davao Region has already granted different livelihood assistance of 20,000 pesos worth of starter kits and a supplemental assistance of 10,000 pesos which will be given a year after the first grant to 20 beneficiaries.
The Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang Pilipino (Kagabay) Program of ECC continues to bring light to every victim of accident at work, giving them hope and opportunities to provide for their families despite their disability. (ECC REU XI)
