Davao City- It has been 5 years since DOLE Region XI together with the private companies in Davao has embarked on a common advocacy to institutionalize the family welfare program in the workplace. The 5th Annual General Assembly was aptly entitled “Kaplag Pamilya, Unlad Manggagawa” was held last July 18, 2012 at the Holy Cross of Davao College Visual Room and Student’s Lounge. 55 Representatives from the different companies in the region attended the activity.
The day was opened by Mr. Alexis Bersan O. Codilla , the newly elected President of the Federation of Family Welfare Stakeholders XI(FFWS XI) who also heads the Human Resources Section of the Nakayama Technology Corporation. The participants were treated to new insights on the Family Situationer in the region by Ms. Catherine Laguesma from NEDA XI. The overview on Gender Sensitivity which followed made everyone eager to institute the same awareness program in their various companies since Atty Romeo Cabardo from the Ateneo De Davao University (ADDU)-Social Research Office (SRO) delivered a very interesting lecture. Equally engaging was the reiteration of the Women Development Code of Davao by Ms. Janice Pinky Aragaon of the Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD).
The highlight of the activity was the election of officers as well as the oath taking administered by DOLE XI Assistant Regional Director Venerando Cebrano. The result of the engagement yielded membership expansion of 5 companies to join the group in its advocacy. The day ended with a very inspirational and challenging message by Mr. Venerando C. Cebrano the Assistant Regional Director of DOLE XI who emphasized that the Federation’s move to pursue this program in lieu of unionism is far advantageous to both employer and employees. He also congratulated the newly elected set of officers headed by Alexis Bersan Codilla of Nakayama Technology Corporation, Vice President Davao Doctors College represented by Ms Angel Torres, Secretary- Holy Cross of Davao College/Arnold Barillo, Asst. Secretary-Davao Reyer Transport Corp./Mr. Dexter Lois Manawatao, Treasurer – Ms. Ana Loudette Bariquit of TADECO, Asst. Treasurer – WEENA Transport Corp/Lilibeth Acabado, Auditor- University of Mindanao represented by its AVP for Institutional Affairs Ms, Julieta Torres, PIO- Brokenshire College Toril Davao City /Cynthia Almeres and Dr. Ellinore Concha of New City Commercial Coporation Group of Companies served as the Consultant. DOLE XI FWP Focal Person Ms. Joy Flordelis attributed the success of the event to its dedicated and committed officers and members the turnout of this General Assembly. We are ready to once again work with the partners who went out of bounds to work together with the federation to further strengthen the family welfare program in the workplace.
The Federation Family Welfare Stakeholders XI is an organization composed of different company members represented by its Human Resource Directors. It was organize in April 2007 by then Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom with 13 members who served as Interim Officers. Its primary objective is to share best practices and replicate outstanding accomplishments by the member companies as an advocacy of their corporate social responsibilities through the DOLE’s Family Welfare Program.
