TAGUM CITY – A Labor Day Jobs Fair organized for the first time by the Department of Labor and Employment in Tagum City drew job applicants from the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental.

Handled by DOLE Davao del Norte Provincial Office ,the May 1 Labor Day Jobs Fair registered a total of 2,228 applicants, of which 1,864 were for local employment while 364 were for overseas work.

Hired on the spot totaled 168, of which 138 local employment while 30 were for overseas placement. Of the registered applicants, a total of 2,211 were referred to Davao City-based employers for further interview .

Meanwhile, the Labor Day Jobs Fair also served clients about 800 clients who came to inquire on skills training, housing, and health benefits; renew license; and to acquire certificates.

The Professional Regulations Commission served 79 clients; Social Security System, 62; PhilHealth, 45; Pag-ibig, 34; Technical Education and Skills  Development Authority (TESDA), 72; National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), 4; and National Statistics Office, 500.

DOLE Labor Provincial Director Milagros Gutierrez said Compostela Valley  and Davao Oriental were being served in anticipation of the demand for  jobs after some residents were hit  by Typhoon Pablo  in December last year.

She said the Pre-registration made in the two provinces turned out about 300 applicants who came to the Labor Day Jobs Fair  in Tagum City was held  in Gaisano Mall  of Tagum offered 3,000 job vacancies from 32 local employers and 9,000 vacancies from 13 overseas employers.

The job fair was held in coordination with the Regional Tripartite Industrial Productivity  Council, NCMB, National Labor Relations Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Professional Regulations Commission, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration , Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, TESDA, and the Public Employment Service Offices of all local Government units in Davao Region.
