Tagum City – A fun run whose proceed is for the renovation and expansion of a school classroom for the indigenous people’s children was staged in Tagum City last December 8, 2019. The Merol-o Elementary School located in Brgy. Magani, Paquibato District, Davao City can be reached by walking for an hour from the nearest highway.

The advocacy of building classrooms is the banana industry’s way of saving the indigenous children from becoming child laborers in the future and its way of saying that their bananas are not products of child labor.

The 4th Sagip Batang Manggagawa Run was initiated by Banana Industry Tripartite Council (BITC) XI in partnership with the Association of Concerned Employees & Staff (ACES) of DOLE XI, and with the support of DOLE XI Provincial Offices. (By Eduardo P. Monreal, LCO-Designate, DOLE RO XI)
