On March 4, 2015 the DOLE-Davao City Field Office launched its first assisted livelihood project for 2015 entitled “Garments Making” which will benefit 224 members and family members (direct employment) of Manuel Guianga and Sirib Growers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MAGSIGE) as well as its entire membership of 3,424. MAGSIGE is an Accredited Co-Partner of DOLE which received the financial assistance in the amount of P 500,000.00 on January 13, 2015 for the purchase of Starter Kits. It includes cloth, scissor, thread, marking tools, tape measure, other sewing paraphernalia and (8) units high-speed sewing machines and (1) unit edger.
The training on Garments Making was held on February 04-26, 2015 at Almacen, Tugbok District, Davao City by Ms. Alice Oñate, a TESDA accredited trainor. Said training includes orientation on sewing machine parts and functions, basic measurements, pattern making, cutting, edging and trouble shooting.
The product outputs were over-all suit, jogging pants, apron, face mask, head cap and laboratory gown. The cooperative buys the product outputs which will increase family income of direct beneficiaries. It will be used by the members who are assigned at the field and laboratory operations of Sumifru Company having the provision of manpower as one of the services that the cooperative offers.
“The cooperative is thankful to the Department of Labor and Employment for giving us the opportunity to increase our income. We likewise commit to properly manage and closely monitor the implementation of the project” said Ping Torres, Coop CEO.
The activity was also attended by representatives from TESDA and DTI.
The cooperative is now completing the documents for its full liquidation at DOLE.
