IN a bid to encourage Filipino seafarers to build their own business, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with the Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP) has launched a contest which will grant a start-up capital of P500,000 as the grand prize.

Dubbed as the 2016 National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) – ISP Business Plan Competition, both active and inactive seafarers or their families have to submit their business plans or new business ideas.

In line with the said contest, DOLE XI-NRCO will conduct a forum on the competition this Thursday, July 21, 2016, 2PM to 5PM at the Apo View Hotel. Registration for the forum is for free.

Interested participants will be briefed on the details of the contest and will also be taught on how to write their business plans.

Business plan entries will be narrowed down to 10 finalists, who will be undergoing screening and mentoring activities. The awarding ceremony for the contest will be on November 11, 2016.

Entries will be judged according to the content, its impact on the seafarer’s community, and its financial viability.

The winner will receive the P500,000 in three trenches and the assistance of local government units in business registration and other services.
