The Occupational Safety and Health Center piloted the SPOSO (Single Parent Organization in Solidarity against Oppression) a beneficiary of DOLE Kabuhayan Starter Kits located in Barangay 76-A, Bucana, Davao City to a safety and health awareness raising activity on August 2, 2011. It was held at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Fuschia Room where 24 participants came and benefitted from the presentation. The main objective was to promote Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) among the informal sector and to develop their skills for applying good OSH practices for there is continuous exposure to occupational hazards, specifically related to tools, chemicals and other materials. A majority of the respondents stressed the need for a common service facility, close to their homes, for practicing their livelihood activities. Mr. Rey Jose Soriano Jr. of the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), Manila informed the OSHC-XI Focal that training of trainers for DOLE XI’s livelihood program holders is set on the 4th quarter of 2011. This is to capacitate DOLE personnel with the knowledge and information on OSH for the informal sector to be echoed to all the different DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) beneficiaries in Region XI.
