Davao City – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Regional Welfare Office XI now opens scholarship programs for OFW dependents: the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), the OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (ODSP), and the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP).

          The Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) is a scholarship program that offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of active OWWA members who shall enroll or is currently enrolled in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course in any college or university. A financial assistance of Sixty Thousand Pesos (P60,000.00) per year shall be provided to the scholar.

          For incoming freshmen (1st year college), eligible for the scholarship is the child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a childless married active OWWA member, he/she must be single and not more than 21 years old, a grade 12 graduating student with a general weighted average of at least 80% or higher and belonging to the top 20% of the graduating class. Applicants must belong to the top 400 qualifiers of the Department of Science and Technology national qualifying examination.

          For those who are already enrolled in 2nd to 5th year in college, applicant must be single, not more than 30 years old and with a general weighted average not lower than B letter grade or 85% equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended.

          The OFW Dependents Scholarship Program (ODSP), on the other hand, is a scholarship program that offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of active OWWA members with a monthly salary of US$600.00 or below, regardless of job category.

          Qualified dependents must be a high school graduate, single, not more than 21 years old with a general weighted average of at least 80% or higher and must pass the entrance examination by the chosen College or University.

          A financial assistance of Twenty Thousand Pesos (P20,000.00) per year shall be provided to the scholar under ODSP.

          Likewise, the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program (CMWSP) is a baccalaureate scholarship program mandated by RA 10022 and is funded by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). Qualified applicants are entitled to Php60,000.00 worth

of scholarship per year. The program shall benefit deserving migrant workers and/or their immediate dependents who intend to pursue courses primarily in the field of science and technology identified by DOST.

          Among the privileges of CMWSP scholars include, actual cost of tuition and other school fees not to exceed P10,000.00 per semester, monthly stipend of P3,500.00, book allowance of P1,000.00 per semester, clothing allowance of P500.00 per semester, and actual cost of economy fare from the scholar’s residence to the place of study.
