Davao City – The Regional Extension Unit of Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) partnered with the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in conducting a regionwide seminar on the updates and new issuances pertaining EC Programs and that of the other agencies on 28 June 2019 at Panorama Summit Hotel in this city.

Sixty-three companies of different industry in the region participated in the event. Industries in electricity, academe, mining, hospital, banana, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, manpower, trucking services, construction and hotel dominated the attendance.

“This partnership is a clear manifestation of our dedication to keep companies abreast of the new developments in our respective programs.” NCMB XI OIC Director Aerrine Marie Reyes said. She noted the need to convene major companies for this purpose as they have employed most of the workers in the region.

Highlights of this event were the Republic Act 11210 or otherwise known as Expanded Maternity Leave Act, Republic Act 11058 or otherwise known as Occupational Safety and Health Law and recent developments on Employees’ Compensation Programs.

During the lecture on EC programs, more emphasis was given to the recently approved increase on the daily allowance for temporary total disability; the increasing number of EC beneficiaries granted with livelihood assistance; the Commission’s Return to Work Program for Persons with Occupational Disability; and the ECC’s thrust to build a culture of safety in every establishment geared towards prevention of contingencies in the workplace.

“Safety of all workers takes supremacy in the programs of Employees’ Compensation Commission because we see employment as one’s sacred possession that adversely affect everyone’s life if lost due to an accident.”, ECC Executive Director Stella Banawis opined.

The participants expressed interest not only in complying with the minimum safety standards but also the greater goal of totally eliminating the occurrence of work-connected contingency in their respective company. (ECC-REUXI)
